Speakers of the Singing Winds.png

The Speakers of Singing Winds are Native Americans currently living in Western Pennsylvania who travel as the speakers' bureau for the Council of the Three Rivers American Indian Center. Attendees will get to witness the beauty and rhythm of the heartbeat of the Nation as traditional and modern Native American music and dance come to life, as well as discover the ways of life of indigenous peoples who lived in Western Pennsylvania through speakers representing different nations.

More about the Yiddish Book Center!

The Yiddish Book Center was founded in 1980 to recover and make                                                       accessible the vast, rich, and diverse Yiddish literature around the                                                         world. Forty-five years later, they have saved more than 1.5 million                                                       volumes and we offer a full slate of educational programs, a                                                                   translation initiative, an oral history project, a robust series of virtual                                                   public programs, an English-language magazine, and permanent and visiting museum exhibits. A grant awarded to the Center by the Lilly Endowment Inc. through its Religion and Cultural Institutions Initiative supports the expansion of the Center’s Public Libraries Program (launched in 2020), which seeks to deepen understanding of Jewish history, religion, and identity through Yiddish literature.

In the expanded program, titled Between Two Worlds: Exploring Jewish Culture and Religion through Yiddish Literature, the Yiddish Book Center has partnered with public libraries across the United States (including the New Castle Public Library), equipping librarians and program staff with the tools to introduce Yiddish culture to their local communities and foster interfaith and intercultural dialogue.
