About the event
Come make a worry-doll pen that will take your troubles away! Originating in native Guatemalan (Mayan) culture; the worry doll is a small, handmade doll that is seen as a trustworthy listener. (Guatemala is a small country in Central America.) At night, young people (and adults!) whisper their worries to these little dolls and place them under their pillows. The dolls then holds on to the worries and anxieties that they were told, so the whisperer does not have to. During the night, all the problems that plagued the whisperer during the day disappear! The whisperer then wakes up refreshed, happy, and worry-free.
In Mayan culture, worry dolls are used as dreamcatchers, offering one a chance to unload one's daily suffering in a natural way. This lovely tradition promotes the healthy psychological habit of releasing your mind of your preoccupations so you can sleep soundly.
