District Consultant Position
The New Castle Public Library is seeking a full-time, non-exempt District Consultant for the New Castle Library District. The District Consultant manages most district services and provides technical expertise and counsel in all aspects of public library administration, laws and regulations, and development. The consultant will act as liaison between member libraries, the District Center and Commonwealth Libraries, will coordinate and promote resource sharing, interlibrary loan and other District services, and will provide continuing education opportunities for library boards, directors, and staff. This position requires an understanding of public library practices, policies, and organizational structures. Travel will be required to visit libraries within the district, attend regional meetings/workshops, and participate in statewide meetings and initiatives. The qualified candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent verbal and written skills, strong public speaking skills, and the ability to build trusting and mutually respectful relationships with library boards, directors, and staff.
This position requires an MLS from an ALA Accredited program and at least three to five years of library administration and supervisory experience in a public library. Candidates must have a valid driver's license with the ability to travel within the district, region, and occasionally the state.
Current PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA Criminal Background Check and FBI Fingerprint Check will be required prior to employment. This position is full-time (37.5 hours/week), non-exempt at a starting hourly rate of $22 and includes health benefits for employee, vacation leave, and sick leave.
The New Castle Library District works with 24 public libraries in Armstrong, Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer counties. The New Castle Public Library serves as the district center and is located at 207 E North Street, New Castle, PA 16101.
