Public Libraries Need Your Help

In addition to personally reaching out to our representatives in the House and Senate, we must encourage library users of all ages in our communities to speak up for libraries. Every day across the country, libraries are consistently meeting the needs of their communities by providing a broad range of services for people of all ages and backgrounds. The library plays a critical role as Americans face tough economic times, as patrons are visiting their library for more than borrowing free books, movies, CDs and attending free reading programs. Libraries offer their communities access to computers and the Internet, financial literacy skills, assistance with job searches, and resources to help small businesses at no cost to them.

In these hard economic times, remember that the library continues to provide free services and resources.

Make your library an important cause — NOT a favored charity. Help us continue to make this library GREAT, not just good!

Pennsylvania's recent study on public libraries concludes that for every $1.00 of support, you receive $5.50 in library services.

Your donations are tax-deductible.

PLEASE MAIL DONATIONS ONLY TO:

Thanks for your generous support!

Tributes and Memorials

Are you searching for a special way to honor a loved one?

Place a book "In Memory of"
Express your sympathy by honoring the memory of someone who has passed away: a loved one, friend, neighbor or business associate.

Place a book "In Honor of"
Do you need an extra-special gift for someone? Perfect for any occasion! Use a Tribute for an Anniversary, Birthday, Holidays, Graduation or Just Because.

A notification card will be sent to the person you indicate, advising them of your gift. A plate on the inside of the book will have

"In Memory of": or
"In Honor of": their name
"Given by": your name

Every three months the New Castle News publishes the entire listing of "In Honor of" and "In Memory of" Books.

We also have the listings on our website:

Donate Books

We appreciate the special place that books have in people's lives and the reluctance to discard them. However, limitations of time and space make it impossible for the library to accept all the books it is offered. Our purpose in accepting books as donations is to either add them to the collection or generate revenue for the library by offering them for sale to other patrons in our Book Cellar. Donated books must be clean, with binding and covers intact, and non-fiction should be up-to-date.

We do not accept:
Old reference sets - Encyclopedias, etc.
Reader's Digest Condensed books.
Old magazines
Materials whose subject matter is clearly out of date.
Books in poor physical condition
Textbooks

Please phone us prior to dropping off books so that we can go over our policy and discuss the nature and amount of materials you would like to donate. All donated books must be brought to the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor of the library. The library will be happy to provide you with a letter acknowledging receipt of the books.

Volunteer!

New Castle Public Library offers residents various rewarding volunteer opportunities. Our volunteers work at many different tasks that enable the library to provide better service to the community. Teens are welcome to participate; seniors and retired citizens are also encouraged to help the library by contributing a few hours of their time each week. For more information on volunteer opportunities, call 724-658-6659, ext 127 or email.
